Dear Mr. Meitinger:
I am aware that this is
going to seem like a strange request to you, but in my desperation, I am forced
to resort to strange measures to find the person I'm looking for. on October 8
I met a guy on a bus bound for Los Angeles California, who, I soon found out,
is from Germany. after talking to him for a short while, I had become quite enamored
of him but I didn't realize until we had parted ways that it was really love at
first sight (now you know that it really does happen!). I am writing to you
because I really must find him and I have reason to believe that he is a
student at the Technical University of Munich.
I know these things about
him: he is an architecture student and he just returned from spending two
months in the states. He is an avid rock climber and is so good-looking he
could pass for a deity. His name is Andreas, and I don't know his last name.
If you know this person,
please let him know that I am trying to contact him and am very anxious to hear
from him. Any help from you would be greatly appreciated. I might even let you
be the best man at the wedding!
Even if you can be of no
help to me, please write back letting me know, just so that I know at least
that you received my letter. Thank you very much! Here is my address and
number. Julie Wahl; 619 standard drive; Nashville, Tennessee, 372xx; (615) 226-xxxx.
Until I hear from one of you, I will be waiting with bated breath! Thanks
again.
Sincerely,
Julie Wahl

Dear Julie,
there is now an end for
your waiting with bated breath!
Thank you for your letter
dated 13th October 1990. You have indeed really serious problems, but we will
do our best to try and help you to find your loved Andreas. As a matter of fact, there are 27! Architecture students at the TU Munchen named Andreas. Each of
them got a letter with your detailed description about time, place and
distinguishing marks. If one of them is your Andreas you will hopefully be
hearing from him soon. That is all we can do for you. Hope everything will be
solved out very quickly.
Take care, yours sincerely
Otto Meitinger

Dear Julie
what a surprise. I still
can't believe that things like this really happen. Yesterday I received a
letter from my university and while opening the envelope I expected some boring
paperwork or bills. But they told me something about a girl who met a guy at a
bus station and that she wants to contact him. It took me a few seconds to
realize that I was the wanted person and then I remembered you. On the next
day, when I went to Professor Meitinger’s Secretariat, they told me that they
have sent 27! Letters to all Andreas to find out the right person. As I was
sitting in the bus to Los Angeles airport I was thinking about getting out
again and asking for your address. But the whole time you seemed so cool to me
that I finally decided to let it be. So I am anxious to know why you changed
your mind, how you found out Mr. Meitinger’s address, and a lot of other things.
I want you to know that I'm really glad to hear from you because you seemed
very sympathetic and interesting to me. I don't want to let you wait any
longer, in a few hours this letter is going to be on its way to you I'm really
looking forward to your next letter.
Andreas
